Deathbringer
I was not always called Deathbringer, in fact my real name has
never been known to me. I grew up with a family of Sprites in a sheltered
village with other Sprites around. Being a Celt i did not really question
or care too much about the fact that my Sprite parents could not have
given birth to me for many years.
During those early years of my life i was brought up as their son
along with their Sprite son and we were not only brothers but great
friends. We both helped out with the hunting for meat that our village had
to supplement our diets. While I used my large size and learned to fight
with weapons and my body, my brother learned to use his mind more, and
concentrated on the magiks. We both tried to teach each other our
different skills but my Celtish mind could not really make the leap to
using difficult magiks and likewise my brothers small frame did not lend
to his physical combat skills. However, we were both happy, and our
parents were proud of us.
When i reached the age of 13, my parents decided to tell me of the
little history of mine that they knew of before they found me, it seems
that this Sprite village had lived together with a Celtish clan for many
years, but then a mysterious enemy had attacked the settlement, while both
races had fought side by side, in the end the Celts had implored the
Sprites to take the children and flee in their moted forms, while the
Celts fought to allow them time to retreat. During the retreat all the
defending Celts were slain and many poisoned arrows were fired at the
retreating Sprites and Celt children, there were far too many to avoid,
and one by one the children fell. I was also pierced and to this day bear
the mark of this foul arrow, but I alone of all the children seemed to
have some resistance to this poison and survived the tragic attack.
The Sprites had eventually made a new home far from their previous
settlement, but the elders occasionally spoke of our old enemy and that we
should be prepared should it come again. Although we all learned offensive
skills, we used them only to hunt and spar, and were a generally kind and
peaceful village.
There was a feast during the year that me and my brother turned 17
and the whole village enjoyed a day of festivities and were ready for a
long night to continue them in, when we were once again cursed and visited
by this enemy of ours. We were not ready for battle, but still put up a
formidable fight, many of the Sprites used magiks like my brother, as well
as some healers who helped us and I was at the forefront of the battle,
the last Celt from my clan striving to try and regain some honour and
vengeance for my fallen Celt family.
The battle was fierce and after hours we were pushed back into the
surrounding forests, I was split up from the others and when they took on
their mote form to try and regroup I could not track them fast enough to
keep up. I kept up behind as they regrouped to drive back into our now
burning dwelling, but when i got there I could only hear the death screams
of my Sprite clan, I fought to try and find my family, and came across my
parents' bodies, but not that of my brother. Upon seeing my parents, I
vowed I would avenge their deaths and knew that I had to escape and become
a great warrior to be finally freed of this evil pursuit I seemed to have
destroying everything I loved and cared for. As I was about to leave, I
caught a glimpse of the enemy behind his troops and a strange symbol on
one side of his helm, and then fled with all my speed from that
battleground.
After many months of weary travelling from small village to small
town, I finally came across Barneyton and wandering around i once again
saw this symbol that had been seared into my mind on a clan wall and my
purpose became clear to me. I trained in the academy until I was fit to
join one of the clans of this town and am now here.
I changed my name to Deathbringer and have always had this single
purpose in my life, and will not rest till I have fulfilled it. Although
my purpose is still clear, recently I have had some visions concerning my
Sprite family, and feel I am on the verge of some startling revelations
that could change my life and the lives of those around me.
